German luxury BMW car manufacturer was tricked on Thursday after its UK unit suddenly announced that it was “no longer posting” on X – an action attributed by many users as a strange way to protest the owner of the site of the site Social media, Elon Musk.
Musk has faced attentively this week after twice extending his arm in an embarrassing gesture that critics called “Nazi greetings” during an appearance in President Trump’s inauguration.
“We are no longer posting on X,” wrote BMW UK on her official X account – without giving a reason for her decision.
“However, don’t worry, our client support team is still here if you need us. You can also see all the latest BMW news following us on Facebook and Instagram at BMWUK. “
The company was quickly criticized by X users, who noted BMW’s busy history with Nazi Germany.
“This?” Alt-Orth Jack Posobiec activist wrote and posted a black-and-white photo of Adolf Hitler visiting a BMW object.
The Republican Senator of Utah, Mike Lee, even called for a brand boycott that proclaims himself a “last driving car”.
“BMW =” Waking up more, “Lee wrote on X.” Don’t buy their cars. “
In 2016, the company expressed “deep regret” for the “great suffering” caused by the use of slaves during World War II.
“Elon just said ‘my heart goes with you. You on the other hand … Your early story is not very clean, isn’t it? ” X user @left_right_2 said.
One user said the BMW announcement was a “historical event” that “marks the first time a BMW signaled before departure from the lane.”
Sawyer Meritt, who runs a prominent X account that often interacts with Musk, did a BMW account analysis in the UK.
“Their posts received an average of 12 likes,” Meritt wrote.
When it was reached for comment, a BMW spokesman in the UK said the Division “will continue to be active on X” despite no longer posting on the account.
The spokesman did not answer the questions whether Musk’s behavior had prompted the action.
“The presence of BMW Group brands on social media is managed by each country/region to address their unique demands,” the spokesman said in a statement.
“In the UK we will continue to be active on X, offering a dedicated channel to support the client to meet the needs of our clients,” the spokesman added.
“This approach will change in all our brands and regions, reflecting the specific needs of each market.”
Musk, 55, has responded to those who accused him of Nazi greeting.
“Honestly, they need better dirty tricks. The attack ‘everyone is Hitler’ is very tired, “Musk said in a post on X.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among those who came out in defense of Musk.
“Elon is a great friend of Israel. He visited Israel after the October 7 massacre, in which the Hamas terrorists committed the worst cruelty against the Jewish people from the Holocaust, “Netanyahu said.
